The Reptile Room is the second book in the Series of Unfortuate Events. It was written by Lemony Snicket in 2000.
Violiet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent by Mr.Poe to live with a man named Dr. Montgomery. Dr.Montgomery was a helioptologist, which is a scientist that studies snakes. Dr. Montgomery tells Violet, Sunny, and Klaus that his assistant has resigned and a new assistant will be coming in a week. He also tells them that they will be going to Peru at 5:00 on the Prospero to study snakes and discover new species. To prepare for this journey, Dr. Montgomery asks Violet to look and fix the snake traps, Klaus to read information on different species of snakes, and Sunny to cut a long rope into usable pieces. For a week, they enjoy these tasks with Dr.Montgomery. On the day the new assistant arrives at Dr. Montgomery's house, Dr.Montgomery has gone out to buy supplies and the Baudelaire orphans are waiting for the new assistant. When the new assistant arrives, they discover that the new assistant, calling himself Stephano, is really Count Olaf.
